A Getaway to Segovia

Once settled in, in Madrid you will quicky figure out that it is easy to plan a day trip to get to know other sites of Spain.

Segovia is the perfect destination for a quick and yet memorable getaway. Indeed one day is enought to visit one of the many UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the Spanish Capital.

The trip stard at the gate of the Chamartin Station. At this stage I advise you to buy the full-price tickets to be able to change them for another time if needed, as the price at discount make not much of a difference at this stage when the train ticket costs only 10€ single trip per person.

After a train ride of only 30 minutes, you will arrived in the beautifull Segovia. However once out of the station it will look like you are in the middle of nowhere ; walk traight ahead to find the bus which will drive you to the center of the town right in front of the famous Roman Segovia Aqueduct, for about 1 euro.
If you were to arrive before 10 :00 in the morning you will be lucky to have the town to yourself and to take gorgeous pictures as the shops and tourists office will not be oppen yet.
Plus walking down the Aqueduc will be able the enjoy the view over Segovia.

From there it is very easy to go to the Segovia Cathedral, and this even without a map, since you only have to go down Calle Juan Bravo. The historical site in its gothic style itself will not let you indifferent.

To keep up with the incredible architecture of the town, drop by the Alcazar de Segovia the splendid Disney inspired casttle.

The tickets are as the rest cheap, 6.5 euro per person, but be carefull they only can be bought in cash.
The must then, is to walk upstrairs out of the terrace where you can enjoy the view of another site of Segovia.
After this touristic activity go back to the center of Segovia for a snack. In the main shopping street you will find restaurants and bars where you can have luch for under 20 euros or just a great unexpensive snack.

After getting a bit lost in the old Segovia, and having walk on so many little streets ; it will be time to go back to the station ; but be aware and check before head the bus hours because at sometime of the day the bus passes every hours.

Once back in Madrid, you can make a stop at Sol, the center of the capital, for the night.
